philanthropy, for $350 million of construction of new facilities
including two research towers, a state-of-the-art education center,
center for clinical excellence, a college of public health, geriatric
center, college of nursing addition and low vision center. Clearly,
Chancellor Maurer has provided outstanding leadership to the Medical
Center campus.
University policy RP 6.2.7 precludes naming facilities after current
employees. However, the same policy provides that donors making
substantial contributions may request that facilities be named after
current employees, upon gaining waiver of such policy by the Board
of Regents.
By naming the College of Public Health building “Harold M. and
Beverly Maurer Center for Public Health,” as requested by the Scotts,
the Board of Regents expresses on behalf of the University of
Nebraska Medical Center its deepest gratitude and appreciation to Bill
and Ruth Scott for their continued support of the University of
Nebraska.
