philanthropy, for $350 million <strong>of</strong> construction <strong>of</strong> new facilities<br />

including two research towers, a state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art education center,<br />

center for clinical excellence, a college <strong>of</strong> public health, geriatric<br />

center, college <strong>of</strong> nursing addition and low vision center. Clearly,<br />

Chancellor Maurer has provided outstanding leadership to the Medical<br />

Center campus.<br />

<strong>University</strong> policy RP 6.2.7 precludes naming facilities after current<br />

employees. However, the same policy provides that donors making<br />

substantial contributions may request that facilities be named after<br />

current employees, upon gaining waiver <strong>of</strong> such policy by the Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> Regents.<br />

By naming the College <strong>of</strong> Public Health building “Harold M. and<br />

Beverly Maurer Center for Public Health,” as requested by the Scotts,<br />

the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents expresses on behalf <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Nebraska</strong> Medical Center its deepest gratitude and appreciation to Bill<br />

and Ruth Scott for their continued support <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Nebraska</strong>.<br />
