Project Description
This project will renovate the building infrastructure systems (envelope, plumbing,
HVAC, electrical) of the former Whittier Junior High School and fully finish
approximately 50% of main building spaces to provide dry research laboratories,
offices, and conference rooms for various UNL research programs on campus.
Approximately 13,000 gross square feet in the Whittier North Annex will be renovated
for a Child Development Center.
The purpose of the project is to:
• Renovate and upgrade the infrastructure of the Whittier Building and its
North Annex.
• Provide much needed research laboratory, office and support space for use by
various research programs.
• Provide affordable, high-quality child development services available to
faculty, staff, and students in a convenient location.

Schematic Design complete: January 16, 2008
Design Development complete: April 16, 2008
Construction Documents complete: August 2008
Receive Bids for Construction: September 2008
Start Construction: October 2008
Substantial Completion north annex: August 2009
Substantial Completion main building: December 2009
Open main building: January 2010
