Whittier Building Renovation<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nebraska</strong>-Lincoln<br />

Project Description<br />

This project will renovate the building infrastructure systems (envelope, plumbing,<br />

HVAC, electrical) <strong>of</strong> the former Whittier Junior High School and fully finish<br />

approximately 50% <strong>of</strong> main building spaces to provide dry research laboratories,<br />

<strong>of</strong>fices, and conference rooms for various UNL research programs on campus.<br />

Approximately 13,000 gross square feet in the Whittier North Annex will be renovated<br />

for a Child Development Center.<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> the project is to:<br />

• Renovate and upgrade the infrastructure <strong>of</strong> the Whittier Building and its<br />

North Annex.<br />

• Provide much needed research laboratory, <strong>of</strong>fice and support space for use by<br />

various research programs.<br />

• Provide affordable, high-quality child development services available to<br />

faculty, staff, and students in a convenient location.<br />

Total Project Cost $23,750,000<br />

Project Schedule<br />

Schematic Design complete: January 16, 2008<br />

Design Development complete: April 16, 2008<br />

Construction Documents complete: August 2008<br />

Receive Bids for Construction: <strong>September</strong> 2008<br />

Start Construction: October 2008<br />

Substantial Completion north annex: August 2009<br />

Substantial Completion main building: December 2009<br />

Open main building: January 2010<br />
