<strong>Nebraska</strong> Medical Center College <strong>of</strong> Dentistry building on the East<br />

Campus <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nebraska</strong>–Lincoln<br />

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Report<br />

PREVIOUS ACTION: <strong>September</strong> 6, 2007 – The Board <strong>of</strong> Regents approved the selection <strong>of</strong><br />

Davis Design to provide architectural design services for the renovation<br />

<strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nebraska</strong> Medical Center College <strong>of</strong> Dentistry<br />

building on the East Campus <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nebraska</strong>–Lincoln.<br />

June 14, 2007 – the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents approved the program statement<br />

and budget for the renovation <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nebraska</strong> Medical<br />

Center (UNMC) College <strong>of</strong> Dentistry building on the East Campus <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nebraska</strong>-Lincoln (UNL).<br />

EXPLANATION: Design Development for the renovation <strong>of</strong> the UNMC College <strong>of</strong><br />

Dentistry Building on the UNL East Campus is now complete. This<br />

project, primarily funded through the LB 605 mechanism, will replace<br />

building infrastructure, restore the building to code compliance,<br />

reorganize and renovate teaching clinics, class labs and support space,<br />

and renew patient waiting and circulation space. An Advanced Clinical<br />

Practice area will be renovated apart from LB 605 funding.<br />

PROJECT COST: $8,972,000<br />

The proposed project will retr<strong>of</strong>it or replace obsolescent systems<br />

throughout the building that are functional but below performance and<br />

safety standards for a medical and research facility. The building’s east<br />

entry will be enclosed to allow installation <strong>of</strong> an elevator, creating an<br />

accessible entry.<br />

The proposed project will continue implementation <strong>of</strong> a goal <strong>of</strong> the<br />

UNMC 2006-2015 Facilities Development Plan to renew and expand<br />

education space by preparing the College <strong>of</strong> Dentistry building for<br />

continued service well into the future.<br />

The $8,972,000 budget displayed below is in agreement with this<br />

project’s allocation <strong>of</strong> the LB 605 proceeds. The operating costs and<br />

1% assessment will be included in the 2011-2012 budget request.<br />

Proposed start <strong>of</strong> construction: October 2008<br />

Proposed completion <strong>of</strong> construction: August 2010
