DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED MASTER OF SCIENCE IN CONSTRUCTION<br />

1. INTRODUCTION<br />

The Master <strong>of</strong> Science (M.S.) in Construction is a research oriented advanced degree. The<br />

degree program is for individuals with a degree in engineering or management area who wish to<br />

acquire knowledge or skills for higher level technical or management work, and who want an<br />

introduction to graduate level research.<br />

2. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />

2.1. Grade Point Requirements<br />

Admission with full standing requires a grade point average (GPA) for all undergraduate<br />

work <strong>of</strong> at least 3.00 points (on a 4.00 scale). Applicants with a GPA below 3.00 or with<br />

deficiencies will be evaluated and admission may be granted on a provisional basis until pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> an<br />

ability to complete graduate level work satisfactorily, as established by the Construction program’s<br />

Graduate Committee has been demonstrated.<br />

2.2. Prerequisite requirements<br />

To enter the M.S. in Construction, a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science (or higher) degree in engineering,<br />

management, or an equivalent program satisfying the admissions committee is required. Students<br />

may be admitted provisionally if they have not satisfied the prerequisite requirements. The<br />

Construction program’s Graduate Committee will stipulate the additional courses that must be taken<br />

to satisfy the prerequisite requirements. All deficient courses stipulated at the time <strong>of</strong> admission<br />

must be passed with a grade <strong>of</strong> B or better. None <strong>of</strong> these additional courses may be used in the<br />

student’s M.S. program <strong>of</strong> study. All prerequisites must be met before 18 hours <strong>of</strong> graduate course<br />

work is completed.<br />

2.3. General Program Requirements<br />

Students entering the M.S. in Construction must meet all established general program<br />

requirements <strong>of</strong> the degree as published in the UNL Graduate Bulletin and those issued by the<br />

Construction program Graduate Committee. Students must complete at least twelve semester-hours<br />

from courses open exclusively to graduate students at the 800 or 900 level with no 400 or lower<br />

counterpart. Students are required to complete at least 18 semester hours from courses <strong>of</strong>fered in<br />

the Construction Program (Either courses designated CONE or CNST). Course work for the M.S.<br />

cannot be taken Pass/Fail.<br />

A program <strong>of</strong> study must be approved by the UNL Graduate School before 18 semester<br />

hours are completed. The student submits the proposed program to the Chairman <strong>of</strong> Graduate<br />

Programs in Construction. Upon approval, the student’s program <strong>of</strong> study is forwarded to the<br />

coordinator <strong>of</strong> the Master <strong>of</strong> Science and to the UNL graduate School.<br />

2.4. Course <strong>of</strong> Study<br />

The M.S. program in Construction will provide:<br />
