SUBJECT: Real property acquisition for future expansion of the University of
Nebraska at Kearney campus
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve resolution authorizing the University Administration to proceed
with the purchase of real property in the vicinity of 813-825 West 25 th
Street & 800 Block West 26 th Street for the development of the main
entrance (east) into UNK and to address other traffic safety and traffic
flow issues, including the initiation of eminent domain proceedings to
purchase such property, if necessary.
PREVIOUS ACTION: None
EXPLANATION: Approval of this agenda item will authorize the University
Administration to proceed according to law with those actions necessary
to purchase real property which is approximately 40,014 square feet.
The subject land is irregular in shape. The attached site plan marked
exhibit a, identifies the property which will be for public use by the
University of Nebraska at Kearney. This includes authorization to
initiate eminent domain proceedings to purchase any real property
interest in this site that the University is unable to acquire after good
faith negotiations to purchase the same have been exhausted as required
by law.
PROJECT COST: Unknown
SOURCE OF FUNDS: Cash Funds
The proposed purchase of this real property in the vicinity of 25 th and
26 th Streets will provide the Board of Regents with a needed site for
development of the east side of the University of Nebraska’s east
entrance into its campus.
