SUBJECT: Real property acquisition for future expansion <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Nebraska</strong> at Kearney campus<br />

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve resolution authorizing the <strong>University</strong> Administration to proceed<br />

with the purchase <strong>of</strong> real property in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> 813-825 West 25 th<br />

Street & 800 Block West 26 th Street for the development <strong>of</strong> the main<br />

entrance (east) into UNK and to address other traffic safety and traffic<br />

flow issues, including the initiation <strong>of</strong> eminent domain proceedings to<br />

purchase such property, if necessary.<br />

PREVIOUS ACTION: None<br />

EXPLANATION: Approval <strong>of</strong> this agenda item will authorize the <strong>University</strong><br />

Administration to proceed according to law with those actions necessary<br />

to purchase real property which is approximately 40,014 square feet.<br />

The subject land is irregular in shape. The attached site plan marked<br />

exhibit a, identifies the property which will be for public use by the<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nebraska</strong> at Kearney. This includes authorization to<br />

initiate eminent domain proceedings to purchase any real property<br />

interest in this site that the <strong>University</strong> is unable to acquire after good<br />

faith negotiations to purchase the same have been exhausted as required<br />

by law.<br />

PROJECT COST: Unknown<br />

SOURCE OF FUNDS: Cash Funds<br />

The proposed purchase <strong>of</strong> this real property in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> 25 th and<br />

26 th Streets will provide the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents with a needed site for<br />

development <strong>of</strong> the east side <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nebraska</strong>’s east<br />

entrance into its campus.<br />
