SUBJECT: Design <strong>of</strong> <strong>University</strong> Life Complex Phase II at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Nebraska</strong> at Omaha (UNO).<br />

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the Project Budget for Design <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> Life Complex<br />

Phase II at UNO.<br />

PREVIOUS ACTION: None<br />

EXPLANATION: The <strong>University</strong> Life Complex, planned for the 54 acre site between<br />

Center and Spring Streets, addresses a critical need for the UNO campus.<br />

The complex will be home to UNO's baseball, soccer and s<strong>of</strong>tball teams<br />

and will provide recreational facilities for UNO students and for the<br />

community. The project will make the Center Location a fullyfunctional<br />

part <strong>of</strong> the UNO campus with athletic, recreational and fan<br />

facilities, parking and improved connectivity to Aksarben Village and<br />

UNO's Pacific Location.<br />

PROJECT COST: $945,000<br />

SOURCE OF FUNDS: Private Funds<br />

This is a multi-phased project and the university will proceed only as<br />

funding becomes available. To date, the university has undertaken<br />

acquisition <strong>of</strong> the land, renovation <strong>of</strong> the dome and development <strong>of</strong> three<br />

multipurpose grass fields (Phase I). Phase II designs and constructs the<br />

team fields and concourse, recreational fields and the infrastructure on<br />

the site, including utilities, bike paths and an access road from Mercy<br />

Road.<br />

This project is in compliance with the 2006-2015 UNO Facilities<br />

Development Plan and addresses several <strong>of</strong> the goals and objectives <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nebraska</strong> Strategic Framework.<br />

Proposed start <strong>of</strong> design Fall 2008<br />

Proposed completion <strong>of</strong> design Spring 2009<br />
