SUBJECT: Create a new graduate degree program, Master of Science
(Construction), offered through the Charles W. Durham School
of Architectural Engineering and Construction of the College of
Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approval is requested to create a new graduate degree program,
Master of Science in Construction at UNL.
PREVIOUS ACTION: None
EXPLANATION: This proposed graduate degree in Construction will provide
students with a research-oriented program emphasizing an interdisciplinary
orientation which will allow them to integrate and
work with the many specialties in the construction industry.
These students will be in high demand as the need for
construction managers and engineers has increased globally with
the introduction of sophisticated technology and proliferation of
laws regarding construction standards.
graduates with the research skills needed to enter a unified Ph.D.
program in the Construction field.
The addition of this program will encourage and facilitate
interdisciplinary research among faculty and will enhance our
national reputation in the area of research and graduate
education.
This proposal has the unanimous approval and support of the
College of Engineering, the UNL Academic Planning
Committee, the Council of Academic Officers, and the Executive
PROGRAM COSTS: The creation of this degree program will not require new funds
resources will be added during the growth of the program. The
budget projection for this program is included in the attached
proposal.
