Administrative Structure:
The Center will be a joint venture between the faculty and the departments of Surgery,
Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Pathology & Microbiology, Anesthesiology, Genetics, Cell
Biology & Anatomy and Pharmacology & Experimental Neuroscience.
The Director is located in the Department of Surgery in the Section of Transplant Surgery
and will devote 0.2 FTE to the Center activities. Funding and an office will be provided for
the Administrative Assistant who will devote approximately 0.5 FTE to the operation of the
Center. The administrative structure is important to the advancement of the plan and to
facilitate submission of grant applications and coordination of Center activities.
4. Alterations in Existing Facilities and Activities
Establishment of the Center will significantly enhance the activities of the faculty in the
program by providing administrative support needed to focus and develop the research
efforts in both clinical care and clinical and translational research. The primary goal of the
Center is to facilitate the efforts of our inter-disciplinary research activities in transplant
biology, which will allow us to pursue additional NIH-funded research grants and to enhance
the prestige of UNMC in the field of transplantation.
5. Measure of Success
The success of the Nebraska Center for Transplantation Medicine is complex and will
include our ability to expand and maintain an active clinical service as well as the ability to
successfully compete for and receive additional funding and perform basic and translational
research. The Center will focus on the clinical, basic and translational research grants and
