Administrative Structure:<br />

The Center will be a joint venture between the faculty and the departments <strong>of</strong> Surgery,<br />

Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Pathology & Microbiology, Anesthesiology, Genetics, Cell<br />

Biology & Anatomy and Pharmacology & Experimental Neuroscience.<br />

The Director is located in the Department <strong>of</strong> Surgery in the Section <strong>of</strong> Transplant Surgery<br />

and will devote 0.2 FTE to the Center activities. Funding and an <strong>of</strong>fice will be provided for<br />

the Administrative Assistant who will devote approximately 0.5 FTE to the operation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Center. The administrative structure is important to the advancement <strong>of</strong> the plan and to<br />

facilitate submission <strong>of</strong> grant applications and coordination <strong>of</strong> Center activities.<br />

4. Alterations in Existing Facilities and Activities<br />

Establishment <strong>of</strong> the Center will significantly enhance the activities <strong>of</strong> the faculty in the<br />

program by providing administrative support needed to focus and develop the research<br />

efforts in both clinical care and clinical and translational research. The primary goal <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Center is to facilitate the efforts <strong>of</strong> our inter-disciplinary research activities in transplant<br />

biology, which will allow us to pursue additional NIH-funded research grants and to enhance<br />

the prestige <strong>of</strong> UNMC in the field <strong>of</strong> transplantation.<br />

5. Measure <strong>of</strong> Success<br />

The success <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Nebraska</strong> Center for Transplantation Medicine is complex and will<br />

include our ability to expand and maintain an active clinical service as well as the ability to<br />

successfully compete for and receive additional funding and perform basic and translational<br />

research. The Center will focus on the clinical, basic and translational research grants and<br />
