124. V. Southworth, 2l8t May, 1721, married Dec. 13, 1744,<br />

Martha Rowland, aad May 12, 1757, Tabitha Atkins, and<br />

had Bethia July 3, 1758 ; Eleazer, March 26, 1760 ; Southworth,<br />

April 12, 1762.<br />

His wife Mercy died soon after the birth <strong>of</strong> Southworth,<br />

and he married Sept. 5, 1751, Widow Hopestill Davis, a<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Joshua Lumbard, born in 1686. She died Oct.<br />

1756, aged, says the church records, above 60. She was 70<br />

years <strong>of</strong> age at her death. As there was no other Joseph<br />

whose age corresponded with HopestiU's, 1 feel confident <strong>of</strong><br />

the correctness <strong>of</strong> this statement.<br />

(48.) Shubael Hamblen, son <strong>of</strong> Eleazer, born 16th Sept.<br />

1695, resided at West <strong>Barnstable</strong>. He married 25th March,<br />

1719, Eleanor Winslow, <strong>of</strong> Harwich. She was a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />

church in Harwich, and was dismissed to the <strong>Barnstable</strong> church<br />

Aug. 16, 1719.<br />

Children horn in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

125. I. Jerusha, 4th May, 1722, married 24th Jan. 1740, John<br />

Hamblen, and had John June 16, 1743 ; Lydia, Oct. 21,<br />

1745, and probably others. Jerusha Hamblen, who married<br />

Oct. 9, 1760, Benj. Hamblen, Jr., is probably <strong>of</strong> this<br />

family.<br />

126. II. Shubael, 20th Sept. 1724, married Martha Lumbard<br />

March 7, 1751 ; 2d, Sarah Crocker, July 16, 1771, and 3d,<br />

Ruth , and had ten children, namely : Joshua born<br />

July 2, 1752, O. S. ; Susannah, April 15, 1754, N. S.<br />

Timothy, Feb. 2, 1756 ; Sarah, Feb. 1754, married B.<br />

Downs, Jr. ; by his 2d wife, Martha May 31, 1762 ; Su-<br />

sannah, Feb. 15, 1765; Shubael, July 18, 1766, married<br />

Rachel Downes ; by his 3d wife, Ruth, Nov. 21, 1768;<br />

Mercy, April 16, 1771, and Hope, Nov. 11, 1733. By his<br />

first marriage he came into possession <strong>of</strong> the dwelling-house<br />

and farm <strong>of</strong> Capt. Jonathan Lombard, on the east side <strong>of</strong><br />

Dimmock's Lane. He filled up Capt. Lombard's well, and<br />

removed his house, a high single one with a leanto, to a<br />

very high hill on his farm, that he might have "a clear air<br />

and a good prospect," and all his life he and his children<br />

after him, lugged their water about half a mile up hill from<br />

Lumbard's Pond.<br />

127. III. Eleanor, ISthOct. 1726, baptized Oct. 23, died young.<br />

128. IV. Joshua, 21st Aug. 1728.<br />

129. V. Mehitabel, 4th Dec. 1730, published to Benjamin<br />

Childs 1752.<br />

130. VI. Eleanor, 15th April, 1733, baptized April 15, 1733,<br />

joined the church Sept. 30, 1761, married Moses Hallett, <strong>of</strong><br />

Yarmouth, 1771.<br />

131. VII. Lydia, 15th Nov. 1735.
