had married, as above stated, his father. This is the<br />

statement <strong>of</strong> iMr. Savage, and I think reliable, though<br />

in direct conflict with the account given by Mr. Deane.<br />

IV. Anne, born 1st Nov., 1683.<br />

He probably had other children after his removal from<br />

<strong>Barnstable</strong>. His sister Deborah married William Barden,<br />

Burden or Borden. He was, perhaps, one <strong>of</strong> the youths <strong>of</strong><br />

fourteen years <strong>of</strong> age, <strong>of</strong> good habits, sent over to be bound<br />

out as apprentices. He came over probably in 1638, and<br />

was bound to Thomas Boardman <strong>of</strong> Plymouth, to learn the<br />

trade <strong>of</strong> a carpenter, Jan'y 10, 1638-9 ; six and one-half<br />

years <strong>of</strong> the term <strong>of</strong> his apprenticeship being unexpired,<br />

Boardman released him, and he was bound to John Barker<br />

<strong>of</strong> Marshfield, to learn the trade <strong>of</strong> a bricklayer. After the<br />

expiration <strong>of</strong> his apprenticeship, he went to Concord, then<br />

a mere settlement, and after his marriage he resided a short<br />

time in Duxbury. From <strong>Barnstable</strong> he removed to Middleborough,<br />

his wife being dismissed from the <strong>Barnstable</strong><br />

Church to Middleborough in 1683. 31st Oct., 1666, John<br />

Bates and William Barden were fined 3 shillings, 4 pence<br />

each for "breaking the King's peace by striking each other.<br />

Burden was drunk at the time, and was fined 5 shillings beside,<br />

and Bates was ordered by the Court to pay Burden 20<br />

shillings for abusing him."<br />

He married Feb., 1660, Deborah Barker, and had<br />

children born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>, namely :<br />

I. Mercy, born 1st Nov., 1662.<br />

II. Deborah, 28th June, 1665.<br />

III. John, 17th March, 1667-8.<br />

IV. Stephen, 15th April, 1669.<br />

V. Abraham, 14th May, 1674.<br />

VI. Joseph, Sept., 1675.<br />

VII. Anna, 26th Aug., 1677.<br />

John "Bardon," son <strong>of</strong> William, had John, born May<br />

1, 1704, in Middleborough, Ichabod, Dec. 18, 1705.<br />

Stephen "Borden," son <strong>of</strong> William <strong>of</strong> Middleborouo-h,<br />

had Sarah, Apl. 30, 1695 ; William, Mar. 2, 1697 ; Abigail,<br />

Mar. 3, 1698-9; Stephen, May, 1701; Timothy, Jan'y 3,'<br />

1703-4; Mary, Oct. 27, 1705, and Hannah, March 13<br />

1707-8\<br />

Abraham, son <strong>of</strong> William, married Mary Booth, 1697.
