Ebenezer Lewes, Esq., son <strong>of</strong> Lieut. James, (5) born)<br />

Dee. 20, l&B-ft, wa» a man <strong>of</strong> wealth and one <strong>of</strong> the most active<br />

and intelligent business' men <strong>of</strong> his time. He was judg.e <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Court <strong>of</strong> Common Pleas, and held many mwnieipal <strong>of</strong>fices.<br />

He married first Aana Lothrop, daughter <strong>of</strong> the Hon. Barnabas,<br />

April, 1691, and second Rebecca Stargis <strong>of</strong> Yarmottth, Feb,<br />

28, 1728. The latter died April 10, 1734, aged 65. Ebenezer<br />

Lewes, Esq., died — -<br />

Children bom in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

113. I. Sarah, 13th Jan. 1691-2, married Eben. Hinckley June<br />

11, 1711.<br />

114. II. Sasanaab, 17tb April 1694, married July 24, 1712,<br />

James Ally n.<br />

115. III. James, 4th Aug. 1696, married 1733 Rebecca Hatch,<br />

danghter <strong>of</strong> Capt. Mosea Hatch, <strong>of</strong> Falmouth, by whom he<br />

had Rebecca born Aug. &, 1734, married Isaac Baker Oct.<br />

6, 1754 ; Abigail, baptized Dec. 19, 1736, and James May<br />

4, 1740, his wife died July 6, 1740, aged 30. He married<br />

2d Dorcas Baker Sept. 3, 1745, and had Elizabeth baptized<br />

June 7, 1747. His wife Dorcas died July 5, 1748, aged 35.<br />

He married for his third wife, April 12, 1750, Joanna Howland.<br />

(This James I presume was the one <strong>of</strong> the name that<br />

was insane, and had a guardian appointed May 13, 1756.)<br />

116. IV. Ebenezer, 9th May, 1699, married Nov. 1736, Mary<br />

Coree <strong>of</strong> Long Island, and had : 1, Mercy, Nov. 22, 1732 ;<br />

David, Jan. 19, 1739-40 ; Ebenezer, Jan" 5, 1742-3 ; Martha,<br />

Oct. 21, 1745.<br />

117. V. Hannah, 14th Feb. 1701.<br />

118. VI. Lothrop, 13th June, 1702, graduated at Harvard College<br />

1723, died 1773. Respecting Mr. Lothrop Lewes, I<br />

can obtain no information. His father gave him 20 shillings<br />

in his will.<br />

119. VII. George, 5th April, 1704. (See 119.)<br />

120. VIII. Nathaniel, 12th Jan. 1706-7, married Feb. 19,<br />

1736, Fear Thacher, and had: 1, Elizabeth, July 21, 1737;<br />

2, Abigail, Dec. 24, 1740, died young; 3, Abigail, Sept. 2,<br />

1742 ; 4, Hannah, Oct. 16, 1744 ; and 5, Nathaniel, June 5,<br />

1745, the latter a man <strong>of</strong> note in his day. Nathaniel, the<br />

father, died July 7, 1751, aged 43.
