is dated 29th Dec. 1749, and was proved in the following<br />

February. He had no children, and he seems to have loved<br />

his brothers and sisters more than his wife, for he is not liberal<br />

to her in his will. The principal part <strong>of</strong> his estate he<br />

gave to his brothers Ebenezer and Samuel, and legacies to<br />

his sisters Thankful Taylor, Mercy White, Hope White,<br />

Sarah Nye, and his cousin Nathan Jenkins. He had a<br />

splendid wardrobe, and appears to have been a fashionable<br />

man in his day.<br />

Joseph Jenkins, son <strong>of</strong> John, resided at West Barnsta-<br />

ble. He had lands at the "New Bridge" in 1690. His will is<br />

dated Jan. 1733-4, and proved Nov. 8, 1734. He appears to<br />

have been a man <strong>of</strong> good estate, and provides most liberally for<br />

the support <strong>of</strong> his wife "Lidia." To his daughter Abigail Hinckley<br />

he devises £10 ; to Lidia Crocker £25 ; to Prudence Baker 10<br />

shs., and to his unmarried daughter Hannah £60. To his two<br />

sons, Joseph and Benjamin, he devised all his estate, they providing<br />

for their mother and paying the legacies to their sisters. He<br />

died in 1734, aged 65, and his wife Lydia survived him.<br />

Children horn in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

26. I. Abigail, July, 1695, married Benj. Hinckley Nov. 2,<br />

1716, and had eleven children.<br />

27. II. Bathshua, July, 1696, died young.<br />

28. III. Ann, May, 1701, married Oct. 19, 1721, Joseph Lothrop,<br />

and did not survive long.<br />

29. IV. Joseph, 29th Feb. 1703. This Joseph is called 3d on<br />

the records—his father was Joseph 1st, son <strong>of</strong> John 2d.<br />

After the death <strong>of</strong> his father in 1734 he is called junior.<br />

He was published to Martha Phinney in 1728. July 15,<br />

1736, he married Mercy Howland. He died Jan. 15, 1749.<br />

His children born in <strong>Barnstable</strong> were : 1, Mercy, May 25,<br />

1737; 2, Joseph, May 3, 1739, married Hannah Foster <strong>of</strong><br />

Tisbury Oct. 2, 1787 ; 3, Bathsheba, Oct. 22, 1741 ; 4,<br />

Mary, March 13, 1742 ; 5, Abigail, Sept. 6, 1745 ; 6, Be-<br />

thia, bap. June 14, 1747 ; 7, Zaccheus, 8th Feb. 1748 ; 8,<br />

Sarah, bap. Nov. 26, 1749.<br />

30. V. Lydia, 30th June, 1705, married Nov. 9, 1727, Cornelius<br />

Crocker. (See Crocker.)<br />

31. VI. Benjamin, 30th June, 1707. He resided at West<br />

<strong>Barnstable</strong> on the estate formerly owned by Rev. Mr. Shaw,<br />

now owned by Dea. David Parker. He married Oct. 29,<br />

1730, Mehitabel Blush, and had: 1, Ann, Oct. 3, 1731,<br />

married Isaac Goodspeed Oct. 17, 1754; 2, Hannah, Jan.<br />

25, 1734-5, married Job Howland Dec. 6, 1753 ; 3, Lydia,
