half <strong>of</strong> his land and "housing" to his wife Sarah, and the -other<br />

half to his son Thomas, provided he confirms the conveyance <strong>of</strong><br />

the lands <strong>of</strong> his son which he sold unto Samuel Cobb and Henry<br />

Cobb which were given to his son by his brother Thomas Hinckley,<br />

also all the money due him from Richard Child, Eleazer and<br />

Jonathan Crocker, being a part <strong>of</strong> the money the land sold for.<br />

He appoints his wife executrix, and his brothers, Capt. Seth Pope<br />

and Josiah Crocker, overseers. Inventory April 2, 1698, by Job<br />

Crocker, Josiah Crocker and Daniel Parker. Personal estate<br />

£137,1.<br />

48. I. Mercy, 22d July, 1678, married Samuel Bangs Jan. 13,<br />

1706, <strong>of</strong> Harwich.<br />

49. II. Mehitabel, 28th Dec. 1679, died in Harwich April 30,<br />

1718.<br />

50. III. Thomas, 19th March, 1680-1, married Mercy<br />

and had born in Harwich Joshua, March 29, 1707, Thomas,<br />

March 11, 1708-9. He died in Harwich and administration<br />

on his estate was granted to his widow Oct. 11, 1710. She<br />

married 2d William Crosby April 26, 1711. Joshua married<br />

Lydia Snow March 31, 1726, and had in Harwich, Thomas,<br />

M"areh 4, 1726-7; Joshua, Aug. 15, 1728 ; Josiah, May 5,<br />

1730; Elkanah, July 1, 1732; Nathan, June 1, 1734;<br />

Lydia, April 1, 1736 ; Ruth, Feb. 2, 1738 ; Isaac, Feb. 5,<br />

1740; and Benjamin, June 8, 1744. He had other children<br />

whose names are not on the town records, for his son Reuben<br />

was baptized April 9, 1748. In 1763 Joshua Hinckley and<br />

his wife Lydia were dismissed from the Harwich church to<br />

the church in Oblong. He was a worthy, respectable man ;<br />

but unfortunately very poor. Thomas, son <strong>of</strong> Thomas, married<br />

March 31, 1730, Ruth Myrick <strong>of</strong> H. March 7, 1765,<br />

Lydia Nickerson <strong>of</strong> Chatham, and July 31, 1766, Hannah<br />

Severance <strong>of</strong> H. He is called a blacksmith and resided<br />

near Hinckley's Pond in H. The record <strong>of</strong> his family is<br />

lost. He had Nathaniel baptized July 30, 1738; Mary,<br />

1741; Ruth, 1743 ; Mercy, 1745 ; Isaac, July 12, 1747.<br />

He died in 1769, leaving a widow Hannah and a minor son<br />

Elijah. His widow married perhaps in 1771, John Burgess<br />

<strong>of</strong> Yarmouth. Nathaniel <strong>of</strong> this family married 1760 Mercy<br />

Nickerson<br />

51. IV. Seth, 16th April, 1683. April 5, 1711, letters <strong>of</strong> administration<br />

were granted to Samuel Hinckley <strong>of</strong> Harwich,<br />

on the estate <strong>of</strong> his brother Seth, late <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barnstable</strong>, deceased.<br />

His heirs were his brothers Job, Shubael, Josiah,<br />

Elnathan, sisters Mary Bangs, Mehitabel Hinckley and Mer-
