Truro, and had born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>, Xehemiah, Sept. 22,<br />

1743; Ebenezer, Dec. 27, 1744, and probably others.<br />

There was also a Nathan Basset, jr., called <strong>of</strong> Middleboro',<br />

who settled at West <strong>Barnstable</strong> and married Oct. 25, 1739,<br />

Thankful Fuller, and had born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>, Nathan, Dec.<br />

30, 1750, and Cornelius, Jan'y 20, 1753, and perhaps<br />

others.<br />

Joseph, son <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel, is the ancestor <strong>of</strong> the Yai"mouth<br />

and Hyannis <strong>families</strong>. He married Feb. 27, 1706-7,<br />

Susannah Howes, she died Feb. 27, 1718-19, and he married<br />

for his second wife Thankful Hallet, Dec. 3, 1719.<br />

His childre>i were Sarah, born Dec. 10, 1707, died July 3,<br />

1736; Joseph, June 15, 1709; Daniel, Nov. 17, 1710;<br />

Joshua, Sept. 13, 1712; Susannah, Jan. 22, 1714-15, married<br />

JohnHawes, Jan'y 2, 1732; Samuel, Oct. 23, 1716, a<br />

whaleman died unmarried, 1740 ; John, Dec. 14, 1720<br />

Ebenezer, July 9, 1722, died Aug. 16, 1723 ;<br />

Thankful, mai-ried<br />

1750, Joshua Brimhall <strong>of</strong> Hingham, and Nathan, Oct.<br />

17, 1725.<br />

Mrs. Thankful Basset died Aug. 12, 1736, and Mr.<br />

Joseph Basset, Jan'y 6, 1749-50.<br />

Joseph Basset, son <strong>of</strong> Joseph, married Feb. 25, 1737,<br />

Mary Whelden. He died Sept. 5, 1833, aged 94. He had<br />

1st, Joseph, Dec. 23, 1738, who inherited the paternal estate<br />

; married three times. One <strong>of</strong> his wives was a daugh-<br />

ter <strong>of</strong> Capt. John Bearse, who came over as a revenue <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />

before the lievolution. He bought the Kev. Mr. Smith's<br />

house, in Yarmouth, where Joseph Basset and Elisha Doane<br />

afterwards kept a public house. He had two children who<br />

lived to mature age, Susannah, who married the late Elisha<br />

Doane, Esq., and Joseph, now living, unmarried, on the<br />

Basset farm. 2d, Mary, Oct. 20, 1744, married Edward<br />

Sturgis, jr., Jan'y 28, 1767. 3d, Jonathan, Nov. 10, 1746,<br />

and Samuel, Dec. 4, 1748, both <strong>of</strong> whom removed to Hallowell,<br />

Maine.<br />

Daniel Basset, son <strong>of</strong> Joseph, married July 1, 1735,<br />

Elizabeth, daughter <strong>of</strong> Seth Crowell, and had one son,<br />

Daniel, born Aug^ 7, 1736. The father died soon after and<br />

his widow married in 1742, Hezekiah Marchant, and removed<br />

to Hyannis. Daniel, the grandfather <strong>of</strong> the present<br />

Hon. Zenas D. Basset, resided at Hyannis, and is the ancestor<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Bassets in that vicinity. He married a daugh-
