(83), Lemuel Lewes, soa <strong>of</strong> Jonathan, born 23d May,<br />

1723, resided at Hyannis, had a family <strong>of</strong> eleven children, many<br />

<strong>of</strong> whom were distinguished for their longevity, one <strong>of</strong> whom,<br />

Rachell, is now living at the advanced age <strong>of</strong> 94. He married<br />

March 7, 1750, Tem'{)erauce Bearse.<br />

Children born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

190. I. Richard, Nov. 26, 1760. He was a soldier in the Revolution,<br />

33 years one <strong>of</strong> the selectmen <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barnstable</strong>, and a<br />

man much respected. He married Molly Lovell and has<br />

children now living. He died ia old age.<br />

191. II. Elizabeth.<br />

192. III. George, Sept. 14, 1754, a soldier in the Revolution,<br />

and duriug the latter part <strong>of</strong> the life <strong>of</strong> Col. James Otis, he<br />

was the Colonel's waiters, and was with him wherever he<br />

went. He related many anecdotes <strong>of</strong> Col. James, and bis<br />

son James the patriot, the latter he called ''young Jim," the<br />

commoa appelation by which he was distinguished by his<br />

neighbors ia Barastable. George Lewes lost $1400 by the<br />

depreciatioa <strong>of</strong> the contiaeatal money. He died ia 1850,<br />

aged 96.<br />

193. IV. Temperaace, April 3, 1757, married her relative,<br />

David Lewes <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth, removed to Kennebec, where<br />

she has children living.<br />

194. V. Lydia, May 30, 1759, married Nathaniel Buaker <strong>of</strong><br />

Naatucket.<br />

195. VI. Lemuel, Sept. 17, 1761, married Puella Lovell.<br />

196. VII. Bethia, Sept. 23, 1764, married 1st Rowland Hallett,<br />

and was the mother <strong>of</strong> the late Seth Hallett, Esq. She<br />

married 2d, Dea. Sylvanus Hinckley.<br />

197. VIII. Jonathan, Sept. 26, 1766, married Hallett,<br />

removed to Cincinnati. He carried with him a large family<br />

<strong>of</strong> small children—lost one out <strong>of</strong> his wagon, and did not<br />

miss it till he had travelled nearly a day, went back and<br />

found it.<br />
