Project History:<br />

Hwy. 610 is a four-lane, Principal Arterial roadway<br />

in the northwestern Metro suburbs. The 1981 draft<br />

Environmental Impact <strong>State</strong>ment showed a need<br />

for a principal arterial in this area. The first phases<br />

of Hwy. 610 were constructed during 1987 and<br />

between 1997 and 2001, which completed work<br />

between Hwy. 10 and Hwy. 169. The remaining<br />

portion of the corridor to be completed will extend<br />

Hwy. 610 from Hwy. 169 to I 94, - the first project<br />

will build the corridor from Hwy. 169 to County<br />

Road 81 and the second project will complete the<br />

corridor from County Road 81 to I 94. This<br />

document addresses the second project.<br />

Project Benefits:<br />

Provide another Principal Arterial in the NW Metro<br />

to relieve congestion along I 94, improve safety by<br />

removing traffic demand on the surrounding local<br />

roadway system<br />

Project Risks:<br />

Project is in the early stages of scoping. Risks will<br />

be identified as the project moves through the<br />

scoping process.<br />

Hwy. 610<br />

Project Description:<br />

This project is to continue the construction of<br />

Hwy. 610. It will extend a four-lane freeway<br />

section from Hennepin County Road 81 to I<br />

94 on new alignment. The project will help<br />

complete the next step in extending the<br />

National Highway System between I 94 and I<br />

35W in the northern Twin Cities metropolitan<br />

area.<br />

Project not fully scoped. MnDOT is in the process of hiring a consultant to preparre<br />

preliminary plans for this segment. It includes the connection to I-94 and Hennepin<br />

County's extention to the west. It is anticipated that the consultant work will be completed<br />

by the end of 2012.<br />
