Project History:<br />
The area along US 71 south of the City of Bemidji<br />
continues to see increased congestion, accidents,<br />
and access points. A temporary signal has been<br />
installed at the off ramp at US 2. Major retail is<br />
anticipated in the near future along the corridor.<br />

Improve road capacity, improve traffic flow near<br />
key intersections, purchase access control,<br />
increase safety, improve ride<br />
Project Risks:<br />
R/W costs may exceed anticipated costs, entrance<br />
modifications and controlled access are<br />
controversial, City Utility unknowns, contaminated<br />
soil unknowns, detour routes and conditions<br />

Project Description:<br />
Urban five-lane expansion within the City of<br />
Bemidji. Expansion of a rural two-lane<br />
roadway to a four-lane south of Bemidji,<br />
center left turn lane addition in rural two-lane<br />
areas. Work associated with this project<br />
includes grade and surface, bridge<br />
construction, bridge rehabilitation, signal<br />
installation, pavement rehabilitation.<br />
Existing Bridge 04012 becomes southbound.<br />

Recent Changes and Updates:<br />
The portion of the project north of TH 2 in Bemidji was completed October 2010. Work will<br />
continue in spring/summer 2011 to complete the grading and paving south of TH 2 and the<br />
new bidge construction over TH 2.<br />

City utility work is limited, urban portion is constructed under traffic.<br />
