Project History:<br />
The work proposed under this project was<br />
originally formally addressed in an Environmental<br />
Impact <strong>State</strong>ment approved in 1983. Initial<br />
phases of the work identified in the 1983<br />
Environmental Impact <strong>State</strong>ment have been<br />
completed. Recent funding solutions have<br />
enabled Mn/DOT to plan completion of the work.<br />
Project Benefits:<br />
Completes Highway 60 as a four-lane facility from<br />
Sioux City, IA to Mankato, MN, improves safety by<br />
providing a divided highway with consolidated<br />
access where possible, increase vehicle capacity,<br />
increases regional connectivity<br />
Project Risks:<br />
Soil testing has not been completed yet, so a need<br />
for substantial muck excavation could be<br />
identified, which would increase project costs. The<br />
salvage yard in Bingham Lake needs an<br />
environmental review. Clear Lake construction<br />
area needs to be analyzed<br />

Project Description:<br />
Complete Highway 60 as a four-lane divided<br />
roadway in all remaining areas of existing 2lane<br />
section between Windom and St.<br />
James including:<br />
Gap 1 - Windom to Mountain lake (8 miles) -<br />
Construction of a new 2-lane roadway<br />
section north of the existing section, re-align<br />
3 county roads to lessen the skew at their<br />
intersections with Hwy. 60<br />
Gap 2 - Mountain Lake to Butterfield (5<br />
miles) - Construction of a new 2-lane<br />
roadway section south of the existing section<br />
Gap 3 - Butterfield - St. James (6 miles) -<br />
Construction of a new 2-lane roadway<br />
