Minor Program<br />

A minor in education is <strong>of</strong>fered through the department. A<br />

complete policy statement regarding minors can be found in<br />

the Academic Overview section <strong>of</strong> this catalog. Information<br />

about current minor <strong>of</strong>ferings is available through the individual<br />

colleges/departments. See the director <strong>of</strong> teacher education for<br />

the science/math education department at <strong>Florida</strong> Tech.<br />

GraDuate DeGree ProGrams<br />

Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Teaching<br />

This post-baccalaureate program is for individuals with bachelor’s<br />

degrees in content areas, who are either current teachers with<br />

3-year temporary teaching certificates or are planning to enter<br />

the teaching field. The program is designed to help students earn<br />

an advanced degree while also completing course work that can<br />

lead to <strong>Florida</strong> teacher certification. It consists <strong>of</strong> a minimum <strong>of</strong><br />

30 graduate credit hours.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

An applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited<br />

college or university in mathematics or science, or in an area in<br />

which state certification is sought.<br />

Degree Requirements<br />

A minimum grade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.0 must be maintained<br />

throughout the program. Students must also satisfy a field<br />

experience requirement that can be met either by a concurrent<br />

part- or full-time teaching position or by completing concurrent<br />

field experience courses taken either at <strong>Florida</strong> Tech or another<br />

accredited university. Students must pass the Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

Education <strong>Florida</strong> Teacher Certification Examination and an oral<br />

final program examination, which is given in the last semester <strong>of</strong><br />

enrollment.<br />
