Curriculum<br />

Doctor <strong>of</strong> Philosophy Degree Program<br />

Major Technical Area: A minimum <strong>of</strong> 21 master’s degree-eligible<br />

credit hours beyond the bachelor’s degree must be taken in the<br />

student’s chosen major technical area. The student may choose<br />

from the following major technical areas: aeronautics, biology,<br />

chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science,<br />

oceanography/earth science, physics or psychology. These 21<br />

credit hours may include courses from previous graduate degrees<br />

as well as courses taken as part <strong>of</strong> the Ph.D. program and must<br />

include AVM 5101 if the major technical area is aeronautics.<br />

Research: A minimum <strong>of</strong> 24 credit hours will be devoted to<br />

dissertation research, including at least three credit hours <strong>of</strong><br />

Readings in Educational Research (EDS 6000), at least three<br />

credit hours <strong>of</strong> Research Practicum (EDS 6010) and at least 18<br />

credit hours <strong>of</strong> Dissertation (EDS 6999).<br />

Major Technical Area: A minimum <strong>of</strong> 18 master’s degree-eligible<br />

credit hours beyond the bachelor’s degree must be taken in the<br />

student’s chosen major technical area. The student may choose<br />

from the following major technical areas: aeronautics, biology,<br />

chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science,<br />

oceanography/earth science, physics or psychology. These 18<br />

credit hours may include courses from previous graduate degrees<br />

as well as courses taken as part <strong>of</strong> the Ed.D. program and must<br />

include AVM 5101 if the major technical area is aeronautics.<br />

Specialty Area: A minimum <strong>of</strong> six credit hours must be taken<br />

in science education, instructional technology or environmental<br />

education. (Specialty area credits may also be in mathematics<br />

education.)<br />

Research: A minimum <strong>of</strong> 24 credit hours will be devoted to<br />

dissertation research, including at least three credit hours <strong>of</strong><br />

Departmental research includes study in a variety <strong>of</strong> aspects<br />

<strong>of</strong> computer education, environmental education, mathematics<br />

education and science education.
