grADuATe Degree ProgrAmS<br />

Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration _______________<br />

The Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree is<br />

a graduate pr<strong>of</strong>essional program that emphasizes breadth <strong>of</strong><br />

preparation in the various competencies required <strong>of</strong> business<br />

executives. Depth is provided through the selection <strong>of</strong> a limited<br />

concentration option from three available tracks: accounting,<br />

managing information technology, or entrepreneurship. The<br />

M.B.A. program is ideally suited not only for individuals with<br />

undergraduate degrees in business, but also for individuals with<br />

undergraduate degrees in other fields who have career goals that<br />

demand the competitive edge <strong>of</strong> quality graduate education in<br />

managerial decision-making.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

The applicant to the master <strong>of</strong> business administration program<br />

must have a bachelor’s degree; however, the degree need not be in<br />

business administration. Applicants who are graduates <strong>of</strong> nonbusiness<br />

programs are encouraged to apply, but may be required<br />

to complete certain core courses to better prepare for some <strong>of</strong> the<br />

advanced business courses required in the M.B.A. program. The<br />

number <strong>of</strong> needed core courses depends on the business courses<br />

completed by the applicant during his or her undergraduate studies.<br />

An applicant is assigned an adviser soon after acceptance into<br />

the M.B.A. program, and should meet with the adviser to prepare<br />

a program plan outlining the courses needed for the M.B.A.<br />

degree.<br />

All applicants are required to take the Graduate Management<br />

Admissions Test (GMAT) and obtain a satisfactory score for<br />

admission to the M.B.A. program. The only exceptions to this<br />

policy are applicants who hold a master’s degree at the time<br />

<strong>of</strong> application and <strong>Florida</strong> Tech graduates with a 3.25 GPA or<br />

better. In the United States, the GMAT is only available through<br />

Computer-Adaptive Testing (CAT) at specifically designated<br />

sites. Un<strong>of</strong>ficial scores are available immediately after the test.<br />

Official scores are mailed within 10–15 days <strong>of</strong> the exam. Official<br />

scores should not be more than five years old.<br />

In certain cases, a student may be admitted before receipt <strong>of</strong><br />

an acceptable GMAT score, and in such a case, the unsatisfied<br />

requirement will be treated as a deficiency and will result in<br />

Provisional Student status. The student will be notified <strong>of</strong> the<br />

provisional status and <strong>of</strong> the GMAT score needed to remove the<br />

deficiency. Students with Provisional Status are not allowed to<br />

register for more than one semester, or to accumulate more than<br />

nine BUS credits, before the deficiency is removed.<br />

General admission requirements, student classifications and the<br />

process for applying are presented in the Academic Overview section<br />

<strong>of</strong> this catalog. Additional requirements regarding admission<br />

and M.B.A. requirements may be obtained from the associate<br />

dean in the College <strong>of</strong> Business.<br />

Executive Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration _________<br />

The E.M.B.A. is a lockstep, cohort program for mature individuals<br />

whose pr<strong>of</strong>essional commitments require a faster-paced,<br />

intellectually challenging program. The E.M.B.A. recognizes the<br />

need for firms to hire knowledgeable pr<strong>of</strong>essionals who are able<br />

to navigate the complex global economic landscape if they are to<br />

prosper. The curriculum provides students with the specialized<br />

and in-depth education necessary to successfully manage organizations<br />

in today’s complex global environment (see the graduate<br />

certificate in executive leadership program in this section).<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

The applicant to the E.M.B.A. program must have a bachelor’s<br />

degree with a minimum GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 and a minimum <strong>of</strong> eight<br />

years <strong>of</strong> work experience in a supervisory capacity. Interested<br />

applicants should contact the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the associate dean in the<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Business for more information regarding admission<br />

requirements.<br />

Degree Requirements (both programs)<br />

The M.B.A. or E.M.B.A. degree is conferred on a student who<br />

has successfully completed 12 credit hours <strong>of</strong> core courses and<br />

36 credit hours <strong>of</strong> required and elective courses as listed on<br />

the student’s approved Graduate Program Plan. MGT and CIS<br />

courses do not qualify for credit in the M.B.A. or E.M.B.A.<br />

programs.<br />
