Results from the 31 runs were fitted to a second order polynomial<br />

equation and the removal of non-significant terms (p > 0.05) was applied,<br />

except when the elimination of such terms decreased the explained variance<br />

(R 2 adj). The goodness of the fitted model was evaluated through an analysis<br />

of variance, mainly based on the F-test and on the R 2 adj, which provide a<br />

measurement of how much of the variability in the observed response values<br />

could be explained by the experimental factors and their interactions<br />

(Granato et al., 2010). Table 2 summarises the estimated regression<br />

coefficients of the second order model obtained, in which fit parameters<br />

from the analysis of variance are included.
