Non-Aboriginal Heritage<br />
Introduction<br />
Heritage items in the <strong>City</strong> are identified in Schedule 1 of <strong>Hawkesbury</strong> Local Environmental Plan 1989<br />
(HLEP) protected by special clauses within the HLEP 1989 relating to heritage items and conservation<br />
areas.<br />

The number of identified and managed non-Aboriginal heritages sites in the <strong>Hawkesbury</strong> has remained<br />
stable in <strong>2009</strong>/<strong>2010</strong>.<br />
Response to the issue<br />
<strong>Council</strong> employs a heritage advisor, on a consultancy basis, to assist in fulfilling <strong>Council</strong>’s strategic<br />
heritage management programs. The advisor is available on a fortnightly basis providing advice to<br />
property owners, intending purchasers, government agencies and <strong>Council</strong> on development related<br />
matters, conservation strategies and policy formulation.<br />
Support is also given to the Heritage Advisory Committee that meets regularly to examine matters relating<br />
to heritage. This committee also provides advice to <strong>Council</strong> and owners of heritage items.<br />
