Basic Equipment-Receiver such as<br />

Monitor: In a Stationary videoconferencing room, there generally are at least two<br />

monitors. These monitors show a view of the distant room and the originating<br />

room. It is better to have double hung monitors in the back and this enables the<br />

teacher to see the far end room and also view from the broadcasting room.<br />

Whiteboard and Projectors: An interactive whiteboard coupled with a projector<br />

helpful in enlarging the image. A large screen gives a greater impression with the<br />

far end participants and has a greater presence in the room. An interactive screen<br />

gives the added capability to allow the teacher, the ability to work from the touch<br />

screen to run the conference.<br />

Speakers: Wall mounted speakers project the audio so that all participants can<br />

adequately hear the videoconferencing session.<br />

Basic Equipment: Controllers includes<br />

Keyboards: To manage the videoconferencing software; to adjust the camera<br />

angles; to access documents to be shared<br />

Remote Control Devices: A number of devices to control the videoconferencing<br />

equipment may be used. Touch screen panel that is operated from the teaching<br />

station or can be a remote device that the teacher can use while moving about the<br />

room.<br />

Basic Equipment: Processors that include<br />

Codec: coder/decoder - A piece of software that codes and compresses the<br />

outgoing and decodes and decompresses the incoming audio and video signals.<br />

Router: A device that connects networks<br />

Bridge: A networking device that connects several video sites into one<br />

videoconference<br />

5.1. 2. Software<br />

There are several softwares available <strong>for</strong> videoconferencing. One of the popular software<br />

is Picture Tel, which is user friendly, self explanatory, and makes the use of the video<br />

systems an enjoyable experience.<br />

5.2. Participating members<br />

Though Videoconferencing has many advantages; the initial cost of it may be expensive.<br />

To share the resources and equipments it is proposed to have consortia based Video<br />

conferencing model. Due to Geographical limitations, it is proposed to have the<br />

Consortium with the following institutes as members.<br />
