The library initiative for digitization is to dramatically advance the means to collect, store
and organize information in digital form, and make it available for searching, retrieval and
processing via communication networks, all in a user-friendly way. The reasons behind
this is the rising acquisition and the subscription rates which have forced libraries to seek
other ways to make information available, and content aggregators and e-book publishers
are providing the means. Perhaps more importantly, digital libraries support service
improvement. Digitization presents opportunities for long-term preservation of
information resources. Digital environment enables cross community interactivity and
collaboration regardless of physical location (Schwartz, 2000).
