• Local databases in machine readable <strong>for</strong>m, CD-ROMs<br />

• RDBMS that supports variety of digital <strong>for</strong>mats.<br />

• Search engines to index and provide access to resources.<br />

• Electronic document management functions that will aid in overall<br />

management of digital resources.<br />

• Well trained manpower.<br />

Advantages of Digital Library<br />

• Universally accessible.<br />

• Easy access to electronic resources.<br />

• Optimizing use of IT environment.<br />

• Knowledge content itself will be ubiquitous and inexpensive.<br />

• Ability to deal with large datasets.<br />

• Support wider range of materials.<br />

• Access to latest in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

3. Role of In<strong>for</strong>mation Managers<br />

Library plays an important role in supplementing class room teaching and it is the<br />

librarians who disseminate the precise in<strong>for</strong>mation contained in the documents to its users<br />

in an efficient manner. With the advancements in electronic technology, it becomes very<br />

difficult <strong>for</strong> an individual to get the required in<strong>for</strong>mation without wasting their time. It’s<br />

the in<strong>for</strong>mation managers, who have to make the required in<strong>for</strong>mation available to the<br />

individual without wasting his/her time. The in<strong>for</strong>mation professionals have to keep pace<br />

with the latest developments that are taking place due to advancement of technology. It is<br />

not possible that the existing in<strong>for</strong>mation professional to go to library schools however,<br />

training can be arranged <strong>for</strong> them to have an bird’s eye view about the developments that<br />

are taking place. The changes taking place in the corporate environment are challenging<br />

the librarians to reorient his/her skill to provide in<strong>for</strong>mation solutions, not just in<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

or in<strong>for</strong>mation sources. In<strong>for</strong>mation professionals have to take into consideration the<br />

following aspects be<strong>for</strong>e collecting in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>for</strong> the end product, which they have to<br />
