had been included in the inclusion criteria.<br />

Conclusions: the average of age was 27,8 years. 15<br />

lesions were on the right side. 23 patients had<br />

ACL injury were sports related. Only 4 patients did<br />

not perfom any sports daily. 18 patients had<br />

associated injuries. 9 were medial meniscus tears.<br />

The patellar tendon graft was used in 22 patients<br />

and 6 ACL injuries received hamstrings grafts. 22<br />

patients concluded their treatment without any<br />

major complications. 3 developed patelar<br />

tendinitis and 1 patellar fracture was reported.<br />

With the IKDC evaluation protocol, 18 patients<br />

had B grade and only 2 achieved C grade.<br />

Introduction: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)<br />

is crucial for the knee stability. Its injury is one of<br />

the main causes of sports related injuries,<br />

propitiating instability and increased risk of<br />

meniscal and condral injury. However, its<br />

evidence in the feminine sex seems not to present<br />

only an unique etiology. Objective: To focus the<br />

etiopathogenic aspects of ACL injury in women.<br />

Material and Method: An electronic research in<br />

the virtual library of our institution was carried<br />

through, through specific solicitors. They had<br />

been boarded articles related to the injury of LCA<br />

in women. Results: The authors had found 45<br />

articles pertinent. 37 articles in english language<br />

had been selected. Conclusions: The more<br />

prevalent risk factors can be divided in hormone<br />

related, anatomical and ambient or extrinsic<br />

factors. The estrogen, the progesterone and the<br />

relaxina have influence in the ligamental<br />

looseness. Wide pelvis, a lesser muscular<br />

development of the thigh, increased flexibility and<br />

the hiper-extension, the geno valgus, the femoral<br />

anteversion, the narrower intercondilar notch and<br />

the external rotation of the tibia had been the<br />

anatomical aspects more frequently related to the<br />

etiology of the LCA injury. The sport more<br />

frequently related to the injury of LCA in women<br />

was basketball. The quality of the sports<br />

equipment, as well as the type and the conditions<br />

of the field are important extrinsic aspects to be<br />

considered. The prevention must be prioritized to<br />

minimize the genesis of ACL in women.<br />

Muscle Recruitments Evaluation with Open and<br />

Closed Kinetic Chain Exercises in Anterior<br />

INTRODUCTION:<br />

Closed kinetic chain exercise is reported to be<br />

quite safe for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)<br />

deficient knee due not to be presumably less<br />

anterior translation of tibia than isokinetic open<br />

kinetic chain (OKC) exercise because cocontractions<br />

of extensor and flexor muscles<br />

around the knee joint to be stabilized. The<br />

objective of this study was to make a new device<br />

for isokinetic CKC exercise and to evaluate the<br />

usefulness of CKC muscle exercise in comparison<br />

with that of isokinetic OKC exercise to be<br />

established the safe rehabilitation in ACL<br />

deficient knees.<br />

PATIENTS AND METHODS:<br />

We evaluated the 8 ACL deficient patients (2 men<br />

and 6 women, mean age 22.1±11.6 year) about the<br />

muscle strength around the knee with two<br />

isokinetic exercises. One was isokinetic OKC with<br />

CYBEX NORM (Lumex, USA) to assess the muscle<br />

strength of knee flexor and extensor in both<br />

injured and non-injured knees. The other was<br />

isokinetic CKC which was newly produced (OG<br />

Giken, JAPAN) to assess the knee torque and knee<br />

flexion angle at the maximum peak torque during<br />

pressing down on the foot plate. We also<br />

evaluated 13 healthy women (26 knees, mean age<br />

22 year) with same methods as the control group<br />

and statistically assessed the correlation between<br />

OKC and CKC measurement of torque strength<br />

around the knee joint.<br />

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:<br />

There was statistically correlation between knee<br />

extension and flexion torque in OKC and CKC<br />

exercises. In ACL deficient knees, torque strength<br />

of knee flexion and extension was significantly
