Functional outcome was assessed using the Oxford Knee Score (OKS). Results Pre-operatively, no differences in JPS or sway were found between limbs in either group. We wanted to define whether OT was saved when switching to arthroscopic shoulder instability treatment (ASIT) and compare with open shoulder instability treatment (OSIT). Methods: From 1997 to 2003 a single fellowship trained surgeon performed 91 SIT’s. There were 57 ASIT’s and 34 OSIT’s. During all cases, nursing staff independently recorded cut to close times. This defined the individual OT. A surgical information services administrator independently queried the operative cases and provided the final data set. Statistical analysis was performed on the results. Results: Over the period evaluated, the surgeon transitioned from OSIT to ASIT gradually. The average OT in OSIT cases was 161 minutes.
