More governmental assistance could be extended to the NGO’s and FBOs in the
form of non-financial assistance like technical support and training or based on a
needs assessment of the particular NGO with regards to most vulnerable migrants.
Training Recommendations
Training of trainers’ workshops should be conducted for the directors of all
agencies that work with migrant and mobile populations, so they in turn can train
their staff to minimize stigma and discrimination and also to understand the
cultural challenges the target populations face.
Training should be conducted at least annually for healthcare workers (including
MSJMC and government clinics) on diversity and cultural competency. Purpose:
To reduce stigma and discrimination towards MARP’s and mainly migrant
MSM’s and SW in the health services and to be more sensitive to the needs and
questions related to migrants.
Training should be done with the Police, the immigration and the labour
departments on Stigma & Discrimination and cultural sensitivity.
Place informational brochures in Spanish, English and maybe Creole at the
Immigration Department, at the Work Permit Office in the Ministry of Labour, as
well as other relevant administrative offices.
Transportation should be made available for the NGO’s. Perhaps it could be
shared transportation that would reduce maintenance costs. A driving schedule
could be maintained and driving duties could be rotated among members of the
