Free condoms Free condoms were available from multiple sources, but 52.6 % of free condoms came from the AIDS secretariat. It is interesting that 14.7% stated receiving free condoms from a club or bar as other reports have stated that they club and bar owners receive free condoms and sell them. Also to be noted is that 10.5% report receiving free condoms from CHAA and 8.4% named outreach workers as their source, when often times, the outreached workers were from CHAA. The 8.4% who listed as other were broken up between 3H and animators. Animators are also outreach workers from CHAA. Therefore, it would stand to reason, that after AIDS Secretariat, the second largest distributor of free condoms appeared to be CHAA. How to use condoms/Instructional condom use Almost half (48.4%) of the men had been instructed on how to use a condom by a health institution. 16.8% learnt from school and from family and friends respectively. 15.7% stated other and that included other sources like seeing it on television or from a sexual partner or an outreach worker. Only 8.4% had never been instructed on how to properly use a condom (We did not conduct any demonstrations on correct condom use: we basically enquired as to whether they had been taught how to use a condom). They were not taking into consideration that maybe their partner had another sexual partner. 17.8% of the men think that choosing their partner carefully minimizes their risk of being exposed to HIV infection. 3.1% were already HIV+, so they did not feel the question was relevant to them. 17.7% felt that they were at risk of becoming HIV+ and the reasons are outlined below in Figure 2. 138
