Access to HIV Services for Mobile and Migrant Populations in Antigua

‣ Men’s health care clinic – where they can get free condoms and check-ups and deal
with whatever health issues they have.
‣ No steady supply of commodities (lubricants) – one participant commented that they
need access to these things as without them, there is tearing, which can result in
more infections.
‣ Someone said at the last minute they need people to understand them and the
frustrations they have to deal with.
9. Which agencies do you find trying to reach this core group?
‣ Health Hope & HIV (3H) Network – this agency provides condoms, holds support
groups, gives information and helps with food and other forms of support. Pastor
Brotherson is also a good counselor.
‣ Gender Affairs – They provide information and support.
‣ Caribbean HIV/AIDS Alliance (CHAA) – “they provide support by talking to use
about safe sex, providing condoms and the staff are helpful”
‣ Women Against Rape (WAR) – “Ms. Wong followed my friend to the hospital and
police station after he had been sexually assaulted by an older man. That was very
nice of her”.
10. Do you have difficulty have friendships with non MSM’s?
“Yes some ‘straight’ guys do not want to be seen with us. They might be friends with us
on What’s App or BBM (phone programs) but they don’t want to talk out in public”.
“We do get along better with females and they also have some good advice on how to
deal with guys”.
