There are no questionnaires available for feedback neither is there a drop box but feedback is received word of mouth from persons who have openly expressed their thoughts on the subject. Catholic Church The Catholic Church has been servicing the community of Antigua offering programs to the vulnerable populations though the key members have not had formal training in this area. Programs range from elderly day care to home for orphan and delinquent girls and also programs for the Hispanic population. Outside of regularly scheduled worship services the organization has no specific opening days nor hours though pastoral care is offered. At the home for teenage girls, talks are done about preventing HIV and AIDS and sexual behaviour that is not age-appropriate. No other outreach is done. The Seventh-day Adventist Church The Seventh-day Adventist Church serves the community of Antigua with its key members, being the leaders of the Health and Temperance Departmental having been trained in VCT. The programs offered by the department aren’t geared solely to the vulnerable populations but to the general population. The leaders seek to engage in counselling which encourages the general population to get tested but actual testing sites have not been set up by the church. The position that the interviewee holds does afford her the privilege to take part in the planning and decision making processes of the organization and they have been putting measures in place to afford a wider population of the church to receive training in dealing with the vulnerable populations though not in the immediate future. 61
There are costs attached to the programs but the cost is absorbed by the church and is free to the vulnerable populations. There are quite a number of persons who access social services and care through the organization on a monthly basis due to ongoing programs offered though there are none specifically geared towards the MSMs and CSWs. HIV and AIDS and STI information is shared with the church membership and the community in general on a regular basis but condom distribution and support is not offered. There are some barriers to services where condom distribution is concerned because of the philosophy and doctrines of the church. There are no interpreters on staff within the organization but there are two Spanish speaking churches and there are members of the congregation who do speak Spanish and are called upon from time to time to assist in interaction with the Spanish speaking population. Though questionnaires aren’t issued and there is no suggestion box the church does get quite a large percentage of repeat visitors. This, some has said is because the visitors always feel welcomed and are well treated and they don’t feel discriminated against and the range of services that the church offers outside of the regularly scheduled worship services are always made accessible by the community. Private Medical Practitioner WOMEN’S CLINIC Dr. Dane Abbott Dickenson Bay Street The Women’s Clinic, located on Dickenson Bay Street is a private clinic that offers obstetrics and gynecology services to females 16 years and older. The services offered to the migrant population along with the nationals are all accessible depending on one’s ability to pay. The services provided are consultation, delivery, various procedures and surgical. The clinic does not offer any services specifically to the most at risk persons – 62
