The inmate cannot have any misconduct related to escape, assaultive behavior, and over-all<br />
problematic institutional adjustment. These actions may preclude consideration.<br />
The inmate may have to undergo a current psychological evaluation thqt may have sigmficant<br />
impact on final approval and should be available. The Living Sober Therapeutic Community<br />
staff will determhe the need for this evaluation during their preview of the case.<br />
The referral must secure approval of the Major of the Guard and the Inmate Program<br />
Manager via the DC-46 Vote Sheet.<br />

The LSTC Outline of the Four Phases states that participants in the LSTC, while in Phase I, will<br />
to read, understand, and sign a consent to treatment form which clearly outlines participants’ and<br />
the department’s expectations within the therapeutic community. The inmate will participate with<br />
his individual counselor on the development of a comprehensive therapeutic treatment plan. This<br />
plan will include the specific goals of the Therapeutic Community and also address the individual<br />
needs of the participant. The inmate will have to participate in an Introduction to Group Process,<br />
which is a lecture on skills that are needed to be able to participate in a group properly. The<br />
purpose of this group is to assist the participant in understanding how to be a productive and<br />
contributive group member. They will also have to participate in an Introduction to<br />
Communication Dynamics lecture that will teach the verbal and non-verbal skills needed to<br />
effectively communicate and listen to other group members. According to one inmate’s case file,<br />
forms that the inmates need to i3l out for admission and orientation are: Various written consent<br />
forms, inmate rights and client rights forms, DATS Department Disclosure of<br />
Admissioflischarge and Consent to Treatment criteria, Psychosocial History, Psychoactive<br />
Substance AbuseDependency Scale, Multimodal Life History Questionnaire, Medical History,<br />
Classification Summary, and Intake Orientation sheet.<br />

Normal program enrollment is 36 inmates; that is the maximum amount of beds in the TC.<br />
8. What is the normal length of stay for an inmate in this program? [Source: program<br />

According to the LSTC Community Inmate Handbook, the program wil usually take 8 to 13<br />
months to complete, based on the completion of various behavioral objectives. According to the<br />
DATS Supervisor, the normal length of stay is around 52 weeks. Actual time in the program may<br />
be more or less than this “ideal” time frame depending upon individual progress.<br />
