because he was unsuccesshlly terminated one or more times ftom the same program and<br />
readmitted one or more times.<br />
We were able to account for each treatment outcome separately, and we were able to<br />
account for an inmate’s total treatment exposure based on the length of time he spent in each<br />
program (number of weeks) multiplied by the program’s intensity (number of hours per week).<br />
The inmate’s first admission determines his primary treatment status in this study, that is, his<br />
assignment to the treatment (TC) or comparison (Education or Outpatient) group.14<br />

education, outpatient, TC, and alumni) during the study period, the actual number of inmates is<br />
less than the total number of admissions. We break down the sample into the total number of<br />
