5. Any unsportsmanlike or violent behaviour (e.g. fight<strong>in</strong>g) that results <strong>in</strong> an ejection of an athlete or<br />

coach from play <strong>in</strong> an ASAA prov<strong>in</strong>cial championship competition shall result <strong>in</strong> a suspension from<br />

the next scheduled match of the current season, where match is understood to mean game, match,<br />

round, bout, etc. as appropriate per sport.<br />

B. Any conduct <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g, but not limited to, ejections, fight<strong>in</strong>g and drug and alcohol use, that results <strong>in</strong><br />

dishonor to the athlete, the team, the school or the ASAA dur<strong>in</strong>g an ASAA championship event, will<br />

not be tolerated. Team personnel guilty of misconduct dur<strong>in</strong>g or immediately be<strong>for</strong>e or after a<br />

championship tournament game or activity shall be reported to the ASAA office <strong>in</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g and by<br />

telephone by the tournament chairperson or by any ASAA Executive, staff or Board member who<br />

has been <strong>in</strong> attendance at the event <strong>in</strong> question, as soon as possible after the misconduct occurs. The<br />

ASAA Executive Director will then <strong>in</strong>vestigate the <strong>in</strong>cident and develop a report to provide to the<br />

ASAA Executive Committee.<br />

C. Upon receiv<strong>in</strong>g the report of the Executive Director, the ASAA Executive Committee may, <strong>in</strong> its<br />

absolute discretion, determ<strong>in</strong>e that the discipl<strong>in</strong>ary action is not warranted, <strong>in</strong> which event the ASAA<br />

Executive Committee shall not hold a hear<strong>in</strong>g. This discretionary decision of the ASAA Executive<br />

Committee may occur at their next regularly scheduled meet<strong>in</strong>g, or a majority response from the<br />

Executive may be requested by the Executive Director (e.g. by phone/mail, etc,) if the Executive<br />

Director believes a quicker resolution to the issue is warranted. In the event that the ASAA<br />

Executive Committee determ<strong>in</strong>es that discipl<strong>in</strong>ary action may be warranted, then the Executive<br />

Committee shall hold a hear<strong>in</strong>g at a time and place chosen by the ASAA Executive Committee <strong>in</strong><br />

order to determ<strong>in</strong>e what discipl<strong>in</strong>ary action, if any, shall be taken, provided that:<br />

i. all affected parties shall be given at least three (3) clear days notice of the time, date and location<br />

of the hear<strong>in</strong>g; and<br />

ii. all affected parties who attend at the hear<strong>in</strong>g shall be given a reasonable opportunity to be heard.<br />

If a member school fails to comply with the request of the Executive Director to provide the <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation<br />

requested or to attend an appeal hear<strong>in</strong>g without just cause, the ASAA Executive Committee will have<br />

the discretion to address the issue and impose punishment(s) as they see fit, based on <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation<br />

collected by and received from the Executive Director and other <strong>in</strong>terested parties.<br />

Penalties<br />

Any student, coach, teacher, school staff or adm<strong>in</strong>istrative personnel of a member school who violates<br />

the discipl<strong>in</strong>e and misconduct policy may be excluded from prov<strong>in</strong>cial competition <strong>in</strong> any sport by the<br />

ASAA Executive <strong>for</strong> any period of time that the ASAA Executive <strong>in</strong> its absolute discretion deems<br />

appropriate, and may be subject to such other penalty as the ASAA Executive <strong>in</strong> its absolute discretion<br />

deems appropriate.<br />

i. Without limit<strong>in</strong>g the generality of the <strong>for</strong>ego<strong>in</strong>g, the ASAA Executive may impose the follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

penalties <strong>for</strong> violation of policy:<br />

1. Where violation is discovered after an ASAA prov<strong>in</strong>cial championship, the team and ASAA<br />

member school found <strong>in</strong> violation of this policy may be stripped of any medals won <strong>in</strong> ASAA<br />

championship competition and may be suspended from participation <strong>in</strong> prov<strong>in</strong>cial championships<br />

or any activity lead<strong>in</strong>g to an ASAA prov<strong>in</strong>cial championship <strong>for</strong> the next full season of play.<br />

2. Any coach <strong>in</strong> violation of this policy may be suspended from coach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> any ASAA prov<strong>in</strong>cial<br />

championship competition and <strong>in</strong> any activity lead<strong>in</strong>g to an ASAA prov<strong>in</strong>cial competition <strong>in</strong> any<br />

sport <strong>for</strong> any period of time that the ASAA Executive <strong>in</strong> its absolute discretion deems<br />

appropriate.<br />
