2. On-site supervision entails teacher presence but not necessarily the constant<br />

view<strong>in</strong>g of one specific activity. Momentary presence <strong>in</strong> adjo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g rooms to the<br />

gymnasium is considered part of on-site supervision.<br />

Example of on-site supervision:<br />

• Relay Pass<strong>in</strong>g: student athletes are practic<strong>in</strong>g on the track/field and can be<br />

seen by the teacher/coach who is with the pole vaulters.<br />

3. In-the-area supervision means that the teacher could be <strong>in</strong> the gymnasium or<br />

room while another activity is tak<strong>in</strong>g place <strong>in</strong> an area nearby the gymnasium or<br />

room. For <strong>in</strong>-the-area supervision, the teacher/coach must be readily accessible<br />

and at least one of the follow<strong>in</strong>g criteria must be <strong>in</strong> place:<br />

o teacher/coach is circulat<strong>in</strong>g;<br />

o location of teacher/coach is known;<br />

o teacher/coach is visible.<br />

Example of <strong>in</strong>-the-area supervision:<br />

• Distance Runn<strong>in</strong>g: student athletes are runn<strong>in</strong>g around the school grounds<br />

and at times may be out of sight.<br />
