The follow<strong>in</strong>g sections must also be consulted: All <strong>Interschool</strong> Activities,<br />

Outdoor Activities, Off-site Activities.<br />

Supervision<br />

• Constant visual supervision is recommended dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itial practice of contact<br />

skills.<br />

• On-site supervision is recommended follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itial practice of contact skills<br />

and after all safety concerns have been emphasized.<br />

• Teachers/coaches should attend the Safe Rugby cl<strong>in</strong>ics provided through Rugby<br />

<strong>Alberta</strong> and Rugby Canada.<br />

Instructional Considerations<br />

• Student athletes should be physically prepared <strong>for</strong> contact by hav<strong>in</strong>g been<br />

taught the proper skills <strong>for</strong> mak<strong>in</strong>g contact with players and the ground.<br />

• Tackl<strong>in</strong>g skills should be taught.<br />

• At least 10 days of practices should precede the first league game.<br />

Equipment/Facilities<br />

• Regulation rugby balls should be used.<br />

• Student athletes should wear full fit <strong>in</strong>terior mouth guards.<br />

• Goalposts must be padded.<br />

• Collapsible, soft pylons or flags off the sidel<strong>in</strong>es, should be used to mark<br />

corners, mid l<strong>in</strong>e and 22 m (66’) l<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
