Supervision<br />

• On-site supervision is recommended follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itial skill <strong>in</strong>struction and after<br />

all safety concerns have been emphasized.<br />

Instructional Considerations<br />

• Student athletes should be <strong>in</strong>structed that sticks should not be brought above<br />

waist level.<br />

• Teachers/coaches should teach proper techniques <strong>in</strong> offensive and defensive<br />

skills and strategies.<br />

Equipment/Facilities<br />

• Regulation field hockey sticks should be used.<br />

• Sticks should be checked regularly <strong>for</strong> cracks.<br />

• Regulation field hockey ball should be used.<br />

• Sh<strong>in</strong> guards must be worn by all student athletes.<br />

• Mouth guards should be worn by all student athletes dur<strong>in</strong>g practices and<br />

<strong>in</strong>terschool athletic competitions.<br />

• Goalkeepers must wear a CE certified field hockey helmet or a CSA approved<br />

ice hockey helmet and full face mask at all times.<br />

• Gloves, a chest protector, a lower abdom<strong>in</strong>al protector, goalie pads and kickers<br />

should be worn by goalkeeper or designated kick<strong>in</strong>g back.<br />

• Molded cleats or turf shoes may be worn.<br />

• Portable goals should be checked prior to practices and competition to ensure<br />

they are secure.<br />
