The follow<strong>in</strong>g sections must also be consulted: All <strong>Interschool</strong> Activities, Indoor<br />

Activities, Outdoor Activities, Off-site Activities.<br />

Supervision<br />

• On-site supervision is recommended <strong>for</strong> <strong>in</strong>itial skill <strong>in</strong>struction and when<br />

chipp<strong>in</strong>g with regulation golf balls.<br />

• In-the-area supervision is recommended follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itial skill <strong>in</strong>struction and<br />

after all safety concerns have been emphasized.<br />

Instructional Considerations<br />

• Student athletes should receive <strong>in</strong>struction on proper golf etiquette and safety,<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g procedures related to severe weather conditions, e.g., lightn<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

• Student athletes should be a safe distance from each other and obstructive<br />

objects, e.g., trees, carts.<br />

• A safe rout<strong>in</strong>e <strong>for</strong> hitt<strong>in</strong>g and retriev<strong>in</strong>g golf balls should be established along<br />

with a designated safe area <strong>for</strong> use of regulation balls while chipp<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Equipment/Facilities<br />

• Plastic whiffle or rubber golf balls are recommended <strong>for</strong> schoolyard use.<br />

• Regulation golf balls should not be used on school property, except <strong>for</strong> putt<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

• Equipment, especially grips, must be checked regularly and repaired as needed.<br />

• Clubs of appropriate length should be used.<br />

• Facility should allow a sufficient distance between student athletes when<br />

execut<strong>in</strong>g backsw<strong>in</strong>g and follow through.<br />

• School property or proper golf facility should be used, e.g., gymnasium, golf<br />

dome, putt<strong>in</strong>g course, or driv<strong>in</strong>g range.<br />

• Hitt<strong>in</strong>g area must be well marked and controlled.<br />
