Supervision<br />

• On-site supervision is recommended dur<strong>in</strong>g set-up and take-down of equipment<br />

and dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itial <strong>in</strong>struction.<br />

• In-the-area supervision is recommended follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itial <strong>in</strong>struction and after<br />

all safety concerns have been emphasized.<br />

Instructional Considerations<br />

• Code of etiquette <strong>for</strong> court play should be taught and en<strong>for</strong>ced, e.g., not enter<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a court <strong>in</strong> use.<br />

• Adequate spac<strong>in</strong>g should be allowed <strong>for</strong> each athlete to be able to execute an<br />

un<strong>in</strong>terrupted sw<strong>in</strong>g while practic<strong>in</strong>g skills.<br />

• Student athletes should stop play whenever a <strong>for</strong>eign object comes onto the<br />

court.<br />

• As the badm<strong>in</strong>ton shuttlecock has the ability to cause eye <strong>in</strong>jury, the benefits of<br />

protective eye gear should be communicated to student athletes and their<br />

parents.<br />

• Front court player should avoid fac<strong>in</strong>g partner dur<strong>in</strong>g rallies.<br />

Equipment/Facilities<br />

• Protective eye gear should be worn.<br />

• Court boundary l<strong>in</strong>es should be clearly def<strong>in</strong>ed.<br />

• <strong>Safety</strong> procedures should be established <strong>for</strong> side-by-side courts.<br />
