º introducing upper limits on
some properties, such as
Softening Point ranges;
º bringing some of the limits
more in line with
achievable production
experience.
• Selection criteria: This
section is being significantly
expanded to give more
guidance with respect to
selecting the most
appropriate modified binder
class for a given expected
demand. Aspects such as
associated construction,
environmental and production
constraints relative to a
specific binder class will also
be included;
• Associated issues: aspects
such as quality management
during storage and handling,
as well as HSE issues, are to
be expanded to a greater
degree. This is to ensure that
the finished product, once it
leaves the blending plant, is
handled in a safe and
appropriate manner and that
it remains within the
specification.
Conclusion
It is envisaged that the revised
TG 1 document will be a significant
improvement on the 2001 edition.
With the ultimate goal of
facilitating the specification of pure
performance-based requirements
still on the horizon (albeit ever
closer), it is hoped that the
document will reflect current best
practice in South Africa and thus
ensure optimal utilisation of these
products. It is currently planned to
release the second revision in the
first half of 2007.
