Figure 6 illustrates how
the stone application
immediately follows
that of the binder.
Production and
logistics
Production depends
largely on the type of
seal being constructed
and on the site
logistics, but can vary
between 5,000 to
13,000m 2 per day. The
latter figure was
achieved locally while
constructing a single seal using an
emulsion binder, but larger
machines will be made available in
time to come, and for those
contractors who are interested in
high production, there are units
available that capable of up to
75,000m 2 per day.
The objective is, however, to
concentrate on the maintenance
seals for local authorities, and also
to offer a service to any contractor
who wants a seal of between
5,000 and 30,000m 2 done in a

very short time, without having to
engage in huge and cumbersome
site establishment.
The second surface dressing
machine is expected to arrive in
South Africa in February 2007,
offering a new and unique service
to the roads industry as a whole.
