It is our great honor to welcome you to the 10th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation
(WCICA 2012), which takes place at Beijing International Convention Center in Beijing, China from July 6
to 8, 2012.
WCICA 2012 is the tenth biennial event of the WCICA congress series. The congress has received
1244 submissions from 24 countries and regions. After a rigorous full-paper peer-review process, 956
papers were accepted for oral or poster presentation at the conference in 70 technical sessions including
22 invited sessions. We should mention that, due to the large number of paper submissions, the Technical
Program Committee worked extremely hard to review all submitted papers rigorously to ensure a high
quality technical program.
The congress program is highlighted by five distinguished plenary speakers: Prof. Jie Huang from
Chinese University of Hong Kong, China; Prof. Francis J. Doyle III from University of California at Santa
Barbara, USA; Prof. Leon Chua from University of California at Berkeley, USA; Prof. Tim C. Lueth from
Technical University of Munich, Germany; and Prof. Hong Chen from Jilin University, China.
In addition, the congress program features two invited panel sessions including the panel session
on “Beyond control” and the panel session on “Future robotics and automation”, all with world leading
researchers as panelists. Five pre-conference tutorial workshops are organized to introduce the hot topics
to young researchers.
We wish to express our appreciation and gratitude to all the individuals who have contributed to
WCICA 2012 in a variety of ways. Special thanks are extended to our colleagues in the technical program
committee and reviewers for great efforts in putting up the high quality technical program, which is vital
to the success of this congress, and also to the members in the organizing committee and our volunteer
students who have dedicated their time and efforts in planning, promoting, organizing and helping the
conference. Last but not least, our special thanks go to distinguished plenary speakers, invited panelists
and speakers, as well as all the authors for contributing their latest research work to the conference,
and to the participants and the exhibitors in making the 10th World Congress on Intelligent Control and
Automation (WCICA 2012) a memorable event.
Finally, if your travel plans permit, we encourage you to stay beyond the conference to enjoy visiting
Beijing and the rest of China. We hope that your visit and stay in China will be rewarding both professionally
