BRANDT OPENS MIAMI BEACH SHOWHOUSE MEZZANINE LOUNGE WITH WINDOW WALL FOYER, DIVANS AND REFRESHMENT COUNTER NOVEL PROSCENIUM FRAMES SCREEN BOXOFTICE :: March 4, 1950 VV iTH ITS MARQUEE projecting over the sidewalk atop a gradual rise of several blocks and its glassed-in mezzanine overlooking a scenic waterway, Brandt's new Roosevelt Theatre in Miami Beach is a dominant force In the shopping center it serves. Decoration of the luxury house has been kept in harmony with the tropical beauty of the locale. Lush plantings in white containers carry out the theme of the specially-designed carpeting which also features the night blooming Cereus for which the city is famous. The lobby, candy and popcorn bar is at the right of the entrance and fits smoothly into the general decoration. Walls are pale gray. Plastic-covered divans with curved backs have white framed mirrors above them which follow in curved lines the divan backs. Indirect lighting fixtures between the mirrors diffuse pastel wall coloring. Office of Eddie Linda, manager, is at the front of the lobby to the left. Doors leading to the auditorium are tufted with red leather. The auditorium, with mezzanine above, employs an unusual cut-out effect to frame the curtain. Ceiling spots, as well as indirect lighting in walls and ceiling, furnish low-level illumination over the entire auditorium. The mezzanine is reached by a winding, carpeted stairway at the front of the house. A deep-green wall, with modernistic mural, faces the stair well. Other walls are covered with a waterproof, scratchproof wall paper in deep green, accented with small modernistic figures in reds and greens and yellows, similar to those of the mural. The entire front is illumined by spots on top of the marquee outside. Located on the mezzanine lounge are telephone booths, deep lounging chairs and sofas and the ladies' and gentlemen's lounges.
