Relaxation of Curfew
OMAHA — Police Chief Fred Pranks has
recommended to the Mayor three ways of
softening the present 10 p. m. curfew for children
under 16. He would:
Extend the present deadline to 10:30 because
"many high school functions don't get
out until after 10."
Not detain children accompanied by any
adult. Present law requires a parent to be
along.
Take away police responsibility of determining
whether to hold violators or their
parents.
Franks has contended enforcement of the
present law puts too much of a load on the
police force. Mayor Cunningham insists on
enforcement.
