5. Navigational Access<br />

The current Pier allows for several types <strong>of</strong> navigational access:<br />

• Small tour boats for recreational cruises and fishing. See Photo 17.<br />

• Slips for temporary mooring <strong>of</strong> small pleasure craft. Various sources reported<br />

that varying tidal, weather and wave conditions make this mooring hazardous,<br />

and there were no boats docked in these day-use slips on the day <strong>of</strong> the site<br />

visit. See Photo 18.<br />

• Occasional mooring <strong>of</strong> historic ships such as the HMS Bounty.<br />

In addition, the <strong>City</strong><br />

stated that they were<br />

interested in "water taxi"<br />

type moorings for<br />

transportation<br />

connections within <strong>St</strong>.<br />

<strong>Petersburg</strong> Harbor.<br />

Buro Happold requested<br />

from the <strong>City</strong> a data list<br />

<strong>of</strong> vessel types currently<br />

mooring at the Pier,<br />
