Ordinance No. 2001-468—Approving the Revised Plaques and Monuments Policy<br />

July 19, 2001<br />

4. Monuments and Commemorative Artwork Program<br />

Applications to commemorate or memorialize with a three dimensional monument<br />

or artwork will be reviewed by the <strong>City</strong>’s Urban <strong>Design</strong> and Historic Preservation Division<br />

through the Non-<strong>St</strong>andard Marker process. If an application meets the requirements<br />

for text and justification, it will be referred to the Office <strong>of</strong> Cultural Affairs for<br />

review and recommendation.<br />

• Three dimensional monuments or plaque presentations without sculpture<br />

Applications will be reviewed for compatibility with site, relationship to existing or<br />

planned public art installation, safety, security, and maintenance. If the artwork is to<br />

be located on an historic building or site, the application will be reviewed by CPC<br />

for location and installation methods.<br />

• Monuments and memorials with artwork:<br />

Applications will be referred to Gifts Panel for review and recommendation according<br />

to Ordinance 375-G.<br />

• Artwork which is contributed to the <strong>City</strong> as a memorial or commemoration, but which<br />

is not, itself, a monument:<br />

Applications will be referred to Gifts Panel for review and recommendation according<br />

to Ordinance 375-G. Accepted artwork will be identified with a permanent label<br />

consistent in size and style with the identifying labels used in the <strong>City</strong>’s Art in Public<br />

Places program.<br />
