Preserve, enhance and beautify the downtown waterfront park system and view<br />

corridors<br />

Expand the waterfront park system when appropriate<br />

Increase permeable open space when feasible<br />

Maintain waterfront parks to the highest feasible standards<br />

Practice responsible environmental stewardship that will protect human health,<br />

ecosystems and sustainable use <strong>of</strong> natural resources<br />

Link parks together through design elements, landscaping, lighting, and other<br />

park amenities<br />

Promote visual arts throughout the downtown waterfront park system<br />

Transportation/Linkages<br />

Promote pedestrian, bicycle, public transit, and marine access to the downtown<br />

waterfront<br />

<strong>Design</strong> and locate parking facilities that serve the downtown waterfront in a<br />

manner that minimizes impacts on pedestrian and bicycle access, permeable<br />

open space, and vistas<br />

Link parks and downtown facilities together emphasizing pedestrian and bicycle<br />

Maintain and improve the scenic drive<br />

Continue construction <strong>of</strong> a continuous pedestrian/bicycle pathway system<br />

within and adjacent to downtown waterfront parks<br />

Continue to improve the pedestrian environment when possible by widening<br />

sidewalks, using textured pavers, installing shade trees, landscaping, lighting,<br />

and street furniture<br />
