Probation: The probationary period exists <strong>to</strong> help new Employees<br />

become more familiar with their role and evaluates their performance<br />

in terms of their knowledge, skills and behaviour. It is a formal process,<br />

where all new Employees have at least two reviews with their Head of<br />

Service / Line Manager during their probationary period. Any aspect<br />

that is not satisfac<strong>to</strong>ry will be brought <strong>to</strong> the Employee’s attention <strong>to</strong><br />

allow them the opportunity <strong>to</strong> address the issue. The Head of Service<br />

/ Line Manager may then facilitate and support the Employee in<br />

training, guidance and assistance <strong>to</strong> help them achieve the required<br />

standards for their role. Please refer <strong>to</strong> your contract of employment<br />

for details of the requirements under the probation arrangements.<br />

The role of a Line Manager<br />

Your first point of contact for all aspects of your employment will be<br />

your Line Manager who will be able <strong>to</strong> help you with most questions<br />

or direct you <strong>to</strong> the most appropriate Department. Your Line Manager<br />

will also endeavour <strong>to</strong> involve the members of the team in the<br />

planning and implementation of change.<br />

Your Line Manager has key responsibility for the following aspects of<br />

your Induction and orientation <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Hospital</strong>:<br />

• Ensuring that the service delivered by you and your team <strong>to</strong> the<br />

patient or <strong>to</strong> your colleagues is of the highest standard.<br />

• Sharing their experience and providing leadership <strong>to</strong> the team <strong>to</strong><br />

help drive quality and continuous improvement.<br />

• Ensuring that all aspects of the Induction process are completed<br />

within the specified timeframes and progressing through each<br />

checklist with you.<br />
