Occupational Health Department.<br />

Moving and Handling & VDU Seminar courses: It is manda<strong>to</strong>ry for all<br />

staff <strong>to</strong> attend a moving and handling course when requested <strong>to</strong> do<br />

so. Moving and Handling Training is provided on the Induction<br />

Programme. Your Line Manager will make the necessary arrangements<br />

for you.<br />

The <strong>Hospital</strong> carries out risk assessments of VDU workstations including<br />

the keyboard, the VDU screen, printer, work chair, work desk and VDU<br />

environment. Employees are expected <strong>to</strong> implement the results of<br />

these assessments. Seminars on seating and VDU’s are provided by<br />

the <strong>Hospital</strong> and Employees are required <strong>to</strong> attend.<br />

Disposal of Sharps / Needles: Employees are personally responsible<br />

for the safe disposal of sharps / needles. You should familiarise yourself<br />

with the guidelines which can be located in the Clinical Safety<br />

<strong>St</strong>atement.<br />

Accidents and Incidents at Work: Employees are obliged <strong>to</strong> ensure<br />

accidents or injuries are prevented if possible. All accidents/incidents,<br />

including near misses, which occur <strong>to</strong> a patient, Employee or visi<strong>to</strong>r,<br />

must be recorded as soon as possible on a “Risk Management<br />

Occurrence Form”. Medication incidents should be recorded on the<br />

separate Medication Incident Report (MIR) risk management<br />

occurrence form. Employees are required <strong>to</strong> cooperate with the<br />

accident reporting system and will provide information, which will<br />

assist in establishing the circumstances surrounding the accident. Loss<br />

and theft incidents should be reported. The “Risk Management<br />

Occurrence Form” and “MIR” form are available in your Department<br />

or on the <strong>Hospital</strong>’s Intranet.<br />
